Focal aim of developing a weaning mix Assam Mix, in the Department of Food and Nutrition, AAU was to formulate a nutrient dense complimentary food for the infant using locally available and culturally acceptable infant food using prevalent technology for the purpose. This weaning mix was designed to reinforce with a cereal pulse oilseed pre-mix, following the guidelines of ICMR, New Delhi. Nutritive values of Assam Mix are almost at par with the costly commercial infant formulae available in the market. Assam Mix is a pre-cooked and easily digestible nutritious food suitable for the overall growth and development of children (6 months and above). Uniqueness of this enriched cereal is that it can be prepared in both sweet and salty ways (with milk, sugar, vegetable stock, dal, or even with washed\pureed fruits), according to the likings of the baby.
