A standard /s/ or /z/ is made with the back of the tongue retracted and stabilized on the upper jaw, the blade of the tongue dissociated in a contradictory manner and the tip of the tongue graded and tensed. This manual teaches step-by-step how to assess and treat clients with an inter-dental or a lateral lisp that is not secondary to a phonological processing disorder or to developmental delay.
It is designed for clients who need auditory, visual, and tactile information to learn to use standard /s/ and /z/. For this reason, standard speech sound production is taught using a combination of traditional articulation therapy and OPT activities.
